A haunting vintage portrait by Alberto Giacometti, depicting his close friend & writer Michel Leiris in Giacometti's intensely linear style.

The portrait belongs to the remarkable body of work created for Vivantes cendres, innommées, Leiris's collection of poems published in Paris by Jean Hugues in 1961. Giacometti produced a series of intimate portraits of Leiris & views of his Paris apartment during the writer's convalescence in the late 1950s. The resulting book contained thirteen original etchings.
