A striking vintage art plate reproduction of Marc Chagall's When Abdullah got the net ashore, Plate 8 from the celebrated Four Tales from the Arabian Nights.
The scene illustrates the story of Abdullah the Fisherman & Abdullah the Merman, depicting the mysterious moment when Abdullah pulls his net from the sea & discovers a strange figure caught within it. Chagall transforms the tale into a dreamlike world of deep blue water, fiery red forms & fantastical figures.
Created in 1948, the original work belongs to Chagall's important series of colour lithographs illustrating tales from The Arabian Nights. The original lithograph was printed in New York by Albert Carman & published by Pantheon Books as part of the Four Tales from the Arabian Nights portfolio.
